Naran is a village located in Kaghan Valley, Mansehra District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The Kunhar River, swollen by glacier melt, passes through this village as it meanders its way through the valley. The village is major tourist spot. Naran is the central place for all tourist activities in the Kaghan Valley. Numerous treks start from Naran to almost all parts of the valley and are popular with trekkers from Pakistan and abroad. However, most of the tourists visiting Naran never get to see the treks and valleys around Naran, their visit is confined to Naran town, Saif ul Maluk Lake and Lalazar. Naran, being the centre of tourism in Kaghan Valley, is fast transforming into a concrete jungle with new hotels and restaurants being constructed at every available space.
Saif ul Maluk Lake a water-filled volcanic crater is about seven kilometers from Naran. It is accessible from Naran through a Jeep Road or several treks. I have been on a trek that starts from Naran goes up to Dana, a small meadow on the hilltop over-looking Naran, and then all the way up to Choora top. The trek then descends towards, Saif ul Maluk lake which is on the other side of Choora Top.
